Glasgow's SEC could be used as site of temporary coronavirus hospital

The armed forces are assessing the SEC (Scottish Event Campus) as the site of a possible temporary hospital to help manage the COVID-19 pandemic.

Scotland's chief medical officer Dr Catherine Calderwood had earlier said there were "detailed discussions" about creating additional sites for the NHS amid the outbreak.

The BBC's Cameron Buttle said: "The army in Scotland confirms officers from the Royal Engineers assessing SEC Glasgow as possible site for a temporary hospital facility. A spokesman said the engineers currently drawing up plans for a hospital but stressed it would be run by NHS not military."

Earlier today, the Scottish Government confirmed a total of 11,487 tests have been conducted, with 894 of them diagnosed as positive - up from 719 yesterday.

25 deaths as a consequence of the virus in Scotland have now been recorded.

In Glasgow, a total of 258 cases have been confirmed - up from 221 yesterday.

However, Dr Calderwood warned that the real number of cases of COVID-19 in Scotland is likely to be around 50,000.
