Work is well underway ahead of the opening of a new coffee shop within Glasgow's Queen's Park.
A significant renovation of a derelict toilet block has been ongoing for a number of weeks and signage recently installed at the site reveals Hugs and Mugs will soon be serving coffee to southsiders.
In March of 2019, we reported Glasgow City Council were set to give refurbishment plans the green light despite objections from local residents.
The move was initially rejected after Shawlands and Strathbungo Community Council voiced concerns. However, after the applicant, Behzad Karimi, addressed most of the reasons for refusal, councillors were urged to give it their support.
The application stated opening hours would be between 7am and 8pm and the southside cafe would have an internal seating area, catering for 12 people. The existing public toilets in the northern half of the building would remain unchanged.
“The development proposal would comprehensively re-clad the existing toilet block and bring back into active use the southern half of the building,” a report to planners stated.
“Subject to the proposed protective conditions, the proposed use would not impact on the residential amenity of the nearest properties and the proposal would enhance the character and appearance of the street scene and the wider Queen’s Park."
An opening date has not been set for the new cafe, however as soon as it's confirmed we'll let you know on Glasgow Live.
