Glasgow's Queens Park Hugs and Mugs coffee shop announces opening date

A brand new coffee shop within Glasgow's Queen's Park has revealed its official opening date, much to the delight of locals.

A significant renovation of a derelict toilet block which faces Pollokshaws Road has been ongoing for a number of weeks and now coffee shop Hugs and Mugs will soon be serving coffee to southsiders.

Hugs and Mugs will be opening their doors at 1001 Pollokshaws Road tomorrow, Monday 7 February, at 8am.

Sharing the news of their Facebook page, the latest addition to the area wrote: "“Welcome to our coffee business – which will now be opened tomorrow and ready to serve you the most delicious coffee in the area."

Pictures shared on local Facebook page My Shawlands show the extent of the major renovation of the former toilet block, with Hugs and Mugs boasting an impressive interior with velvet seating areas and a plant-filled ceiling.

The cafe's planning application stated that the new southside business would have an internal seating area, catering for 12 people. The existing public toilets in the northern half of the building would remain unchanged.

The move was initially rejected after Shawlands and Strathbungo Community Council voiced concerns. However, after the applicant, Behzad Karimi, addressed most of the reasons for refusal, councillors were urged to give it their support.
