Glasgow's pubs and bars 'face pint shortage' amid COP26 disruption in city

Glasgow’s pubs and bars face a pint shortage amid the COP26 disruption, it has been reported.

Vast sections of Glasgow have been closed off as the city prepares to welcome more than 30,000 people for the vital climate talks from tomorrow.

And this is reportedly having a knock on impact on the taps at pubs, with some already claiming to be low on the gas required to serve pints.

The Scottish Sun has reported pub bosses are having difficulty securing CO2 supply while the climate change conference takes place.

One supplier is alleged to have told a ‘well known’ bar in the city not to expect fresh deliveries of CO2 until COP26 is over.

Paul Waterson from the Scottish Licensed Trade Association told the publication that hospitality venues in the city are ‘very concerned’.

He said: “It’s a very worrying situation as other suppliers have identified this problem with COP26 about deliveries and road closures.

“We know there are some premises who are very concerned they are not going to get deliveries.

“We have world class hospitality business and the whole world is going to be coming here during this conference and we want to be able to showcase our talents.

“If pubs don’t have CO2 then they simply won’t be able to do that.”

The COP26 climate change conference will kick off in the city from tomorrow and will last until November 12.

During this period, a number of major roads, cycle paths and walkways will be closed in the city.

A host of big names, such as Joe Biden, Barack Obama and Greta Thunberg are expected to visit Glasgow during the 12-day event.

COP26 has been branded by many as the world’s ‘last chance’ at avoiding a climate catastrophe.
