Glasgow's Polo Lounge nightclub targeted with horrific homophobic graffiti

One of Scotland's best known LGBT+ venues has been targeted by callous thugs who painted homophobic abuse on its front door.

An image uploaded to Twitter tonight shows the entrance to The Polo Lounge on Glasgow's Wilson Street covered in the words "po**s out".

Bizarrely the graffiti also says 'Josef Fritzl' in reference to the Austrian rapist who kept his daughter captive in a basement for 24 years.

The graffiti scrawled on the outside of Merchant City nightclub was reported to police around 6.20pm on February 11.

The homophobic abuse has sparked an angry reaction on social media.

Sharing an image on Twitter, @rayrayowendillon said: "Stood here for 15 years. I'm heart broken. I told folk things were getting worse."

John Clarke wrote: "This is WHY we still have Pride Marches. This is WHY people who are lgbtq+ are scared to be who they are. It’s absolutely f*****g disgusting people in 2020 feel like doing this is normal."

While Pauline McComish posted: “It’s 2020 what kind of world are we living in today society, this is why we have Pride every year to fight for the LGBTQI+”

And Adam Leonard-Burns said: “This fills me with such rage”.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We can confirm that vandalism to premises on Wilson Street in Glasgow was reported to police shortly after 6.20pm on Tuesday, 11 February.

"Enquiries are ongoing and at an early stage.

"Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 2935 of 11 February, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

The Polo Lounge have been approached for comment.
