Glasgow's pantomime season could be set to be postponed to 2021 amid uncertainty among theatres about the timescales by which we will phase out of lockdown.
This comes after the Tron Theatre announced yesterday that the 2020 production of their beloved The Wonderful Wizard of Oz panto has been moved to 2021.
The Tron said it has considered "all the options" open to them in relation to safe social distancing, and that they would be "short-changing" their audiences if they were "to deliver anything other than our usual panto experience".
"Pantomime needs to enjoyed in a packed auditorium, with audience and performer interaction integral to the overall experience", they added.
In a statement they said: "In light of the ongoing COVID-19 situation and uncertainty around Scottish Government timescales for the phasing out of lockdown as well as not yet knowing what restrictions might be in place in order for us to operate safely, we have taken the very difficult decision to reschedule our beloved pantomime."
At the moment, the King's Theatre's production of Cinderella, scheduled to take place from November 28 to January 3, still has tickets for sale.
And the same is true for the Pavilion Theatre's production of Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, which is due to run from November 26 to January 10.
Iain Gordon, General Manager at the Pavilion, told Glasgow Live that there is "nothing concrete at this stage" and that staff are "just waiting and listening to advice from the UK and Scottish Governments".
He also said that any official announcement concerning the panto season at the theatre "is likely to come in the weeks and months to come" and that "one show at a time is the current policy".
