Back in June we reported how much loved city pizza joint Paesano Pizza found itself named the 13th best pizzeria in Europe according to a list drawn up by worldwide travel guide Big 7 Travel.
Now you could saw they've gone one - slice or topping - better with their inclusion in another top 50 pizzerias in Europe guide - this time by 50 Top Pizza, which is regarded as one of the most important online pizza guides on the planet.
The prestigious annual ranking, sponsored by Acqua Panna and San Pellegrino, lists the best pizza spots in Italy, Europe and the world, with the European ranking excluding Italian-based pizzerias serving up the iconic Neapolitan gastronomic dish.
This year's 50 Top Pizza Europe - the fifth edition - saw Paesano Pizza claim 39th position, ahead of pizzerias in cities such as Madrid, Athens, Budapest and Tallin.
Writing about the Miller Street spot in particular, the judges wrote: A truthful representation of Campania and Naples lies a stone’s throw from George Square. The venue is very welcoming and cared for in every detail. The pizza is made using the direct dough method with a 24-hour leavening process. It has almost a “wagon wheel” look, as is the tradition in Via dei Tribunali in Naples.
"The result is a well-leavened and digestible pizza. The selection of the raw materials is meticulous and clearly influenced by the Campania tradition.
"There are nine proposals in total, a few side dishes, and delicious ice cream to complete the meal. The beverage list is basic, the prices are very affordable, and the hospitality is fantastic."
It follows Paesano Pizza's 37th placing on the list in 2020, and while it represents a drop in two places from last year, the fact it is once again the only Scottish pizzeria on the list makes us the world of proud for our beloved Paesano.
