Glasgow's Mortons Rolls 'set to be saved' as website teases 'watch this space'

Glasgow could be set for some good news today after it was revealed the famous Mortons Rolls company could be saved from closure.

An announcement on the Mortons Rolls website posted this afternoon said: "Nae Rolls? Watch this space".

The Glasgow firm ceased trading after entering administration last week, putting 250 jobs at risk and threatening to close the Drumchapel factory for good.

And Glasgow Live can reveal a source close to the consortium hoping to save the famous crispy roll has stated they hope to be back producing as soon as possible.

Calls were made for the much-loved company to be rescued with MSP Paul Sweeney this week warning that "time is of the essence" to secure the factory lease and jobs.

Glasgow City Council leader Susan Aitken previously said that their priority is making sure workers facing job losses are supported "as quickly as possible".

The company was formed in 1965 when it began selling morning rolls, and later branched out into other baked goods. It has been considered a Glasgow institution, and the latest news is a boost for the city.
