Glasgow's Maryhill Road closed to traffic amid reports pedestrian struck by vehicle

Maryhill Road has been forced to close in both directions to traffic between Queen Margaret Drive and Ruchill Street due to crash.

Glasgow City Council's traffic management department TRAFFCOM confirmed news of the closure in an emergency bulletin, issued just after 10am this morning (January 18).

Drivers are being advised to avoid the area for the time being.

Photos from the scene show the incident has sparked a large emergency service response, amid unconfirmed reports that a person was struck by a vehicle.

The TRAFFCOM alert reads: "Due to a Road Traffic Incident, Maryhill Road is currently closed in both directions between Queen Margaret Drive and Ruchill Street. Road users are advised to avoid this area."

In terms of diversions in place, road users are asked to follow Police direction.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Around 9.20am, police were called to the Maryhill Road area of Glasgow, following a report of a crash involving a van and two pedestrians. There were no serious injuries reported and the road was reopened around 10.30am.”

UPDATE: The road is now open.
