Glasgow's Mackintosh at The Willow reopening to the public next week after successful crowdfunding campaign

Mackintosh at The Willow is to reopen to the public next week following a successful crowdfunding campaign to safeguard the future of what is one of Glasgow's top historic attractions.

Back in May, the not-for-profit organisation Willow Tea Rooms Trust said that the closure of the Tea Rooms, due to coronavirus and resulting lockdown, put a question mark on its future.

However thanks to over £20,000 in donations, Scotland’s most famous tearooms will now reopen to the public this coming Wednesday (September 16) in accordance with government guidance.

Bosses say the tearooms is "looking its best" in anticipation for the return of the public, with refinished floors, a fresh coat of paint on the building exterior and with the Salon de Luxe looking as it did when it opened its stained-glass doors back in 1903.

The tearooms will be open daily from 12pm to 5pm, with the public also able to visit the interactive exhibition and take a tour to view the impressive interiors and hear the story of Miss Kate Cranston and her unique collaboration with Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his wife Margaret Macdonald.

The funds will prevent the tearooms from falling back into disrepair and also go towards continuing to provide employment, training and support for the young people who work at the Tea Rooms.
