Glasgow's long-range spring forecast as weather for city 'mixed bag' for April

The Easter holidays are not long away with kids across Glasgow soon set to have some time off school over a period of two weeks.

This of course means that thankfully, we are moving away from winter and coming into spring - something we are very much welcoming after the recent plummeting temperatures and snow.

But with the snow now behind us, at least until next winter, and spring officially here, what can we expect when it comes to the weather?

If you're keen to plan events soon, or are just curious, here's what you need to know.

Glasgow spring forecast - April 2023

It can be hard to predict exactly what will happen because, as we all know, the weather can change in an instant.

However currently, according to The Weather Outlook, the meteorological spring runs from March 1 until May 31 with the first half of this month "colder than the 30 year average" with much of the UK having seen some snow.

Thankfully we are moving away from the cold-snaps with the weather experts adding that "by May it can turn very warm and the chance of summer-like periods of weather increases markedly."

Whilst warning that the accuracy for long range weather forecasts can change, they explain that this is because the UK is "positioned on the edge of a continental landmass, a number of air masses often affects the weather patterns with the borders between them being close to the UK."

Thankfully there is an expectation that the chilly start will be "offset by warmer than average conditions through the rest of the season" with the potential for many dry spells ahead.

Glasgow is seeing a mixed bag so far. (Accuweather)

Showing the whole month of April, Accuweather are predicting a mix of rain and sunny intervals for next month with several dry spells thankfully also in the mix.

On April 22, it does show that thunder and lightning could be due with the "probability of thunderstorms" standing at 26 per cent, at the time of writing.

Overall we could see decent weather for spring with some showers here and there with mid-April, when many kids are off, looking its driest.

Met Office: UK long-range Spring forecast

According to the Met Office, the UK in general can expect to see the following:

March 28 (Tuesday) - April 6 (Thursday)

On Tuesday, largely dry with localised showers to the north and east, possibly snow over higher ground. Mostly cold and settled, with a chance of some unsettled weather moving in from the west later on. Wetter conditions are likely to move in through the end of March, particularly across northern areas.

Southern and eastern areas are likely to be drier, although a chance of showers or spells of rain remain likely here. Strong winds are probable, with a low risk of gales mainly across western parts. Into early April, more settled conditions and drier interludes become increasingly likely, although a chance of wetter, potentially thundery conditions at times. Temperatures are generally above average, though colder conditions remain possible in the far north and northeast at first.

April 7 (Friday) - April 21 (Friday)

A general trend to less unsettled conditions is likely into April. Still some wetter weather at times, with occasional showers, which could be heavy or thundery. However, most areas are likely to see some spells of dry weather, with potentially frost and some fog overnight. The chances of strong winds are probably lower than normal, and whilst temperatures are likely to generally be near to slightly above normal, cooler spells remain possible.
