Glasgow's legendary Bierhoff jogger returns as southsiders spot fitness fanatic on camera

After what's been deemed a notable absence, one of Glasgow's true legends may have returned.

For those of you unaware, the legendary Bierhoff is somewhat of a cult hero in the south side of the city.

Famed for his energetic antics in streets across Shawlands, Langside, Cathcart and beyond, he is also equally iconic on account of his running gear - the fitness fanatic has never been spotted without a football jersey bearing the name 'Bierhoff' on the back - that of German international and AC Milan footballer Oliver Bierhoff.

So lofty is the runner's status within certain circles in Glasgow, Bierhoff recently featured in Glasgow Live's '12 forgotten Glasgow characters' article, alongside the likes of 'The Electric Scarecrow' and 'Swampy'.

Our description of the south side sprinter read: "Another south side character, the Bierhoff jogger was a regular sight up until recently while out running on the streets, where he would wave to passing motorists.

"No-one ever saw him walk apparently, even with shopping bags on his arms."

Yet, to the delight of many southsiders, it would appear he is back.

A figure spotted in the famed red and black stripes of AC Milan, undertaking a series of unorthodox exercises, was seen on CCTV by Twitter user @atcolin, who shared the footage to a very warm reception on social media.

Replies to his initial post - "Southside of Glasgow folk. Bierhoff is still going strong" included: "A legend in the industry", "Wow, cannot believe he's still going man!" and "Not seen him for ages, used to live on Holmlea Road and see him all the time - legend."

And another user, David Boyd, gave further credence to hopeful Southsiders the video indeed is the hero himself, adding: "I seen him in the middle of Croftfoot roundabout doing those funky moves".

And if it proves to be the real man himself, we for one at Glasgow Live are delighted to see one of Glasgow's cult characters back in business.
