Glasgow's iconic Barras Market to reopen amid easing of covid restrictions

Glasgow's iconic Barras Market is to reopen for business amid an easing of covid restrictions.

The east end institution, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, was forced to close at the beginning of January after further measures were introduced to help stop the spread of covid-19 and limit non-essential contact.

However, with shops being able to fully reopen when Glasgow moves to Level 3 (as planned) on April 26, bosses at The Barras have confirmed that they will welcome back visitors on the weekend of May 1 and 2.

As normal, the market will operate for customers between 9am and 5pm on Saturday and Sundays.

As we reported last month, the area adjacent to the market could soon be welcoming a new restaurant under plans submitted to Glasgow City Council's Planning Department.

The proposals would see a two storey building on London Road opposite the junction with Kent Road turned into the restaurant.
