Glasgow's Duke of Wellington statue now has a face mask to accompany his traffic cone

The Duke of Wellington in Glasgow has now found himself with a new piece of clobber to go alongside his iconic traffic cone - a face mask.

It was only a matter of time before it was going to happen to the iconic statue - even despite the ongoing lockdown having left Glasgow city centre resembling a ghost town.

'Real' images of the Duke appeared online over the last few weeks giving rise to the suggestion that we was wearing a mask - but they turned out to be photoshopped.

And now someone, hopefully during their designated period of daily exercise, has climbed up the statue outside the GoMA in Royal Exchange Square to secure a blue surgical mask round his mouth and face.

We aren't unsure quite when exactly the feat was done but it seems like it happened earlier today at some point.

And it couldn't seem more timely after the Scottish Government issued new guidance on covering your face when entering enclosed spaces where social distancing remains difficult, including shops and public transport.

Which begs the question - was it Ms Sturgeon herself?

Whoever it was we salute you for bringing a wee bit of cheer during these difficult times!
