Glasgow's Drygate Brewery launches new beer inspired by Tunnock's Teacakes

Glasgow's Drygate Brewery has launched a new beer - inspired by Tunnock's Teacakes.

The beer firm, which is based in the city's east end, say the new beer is part of a new ' Biscuit Tin ' range.

The Chocolate Mallow Stout is a punchy 7.5% abv and is described as having a thick, creamy flavour that emulates the classic Scottish treat.

Speaking about the new beer in a post online, the brewery team wrote: "We’ve laid down a chocolatey biscuit base for this beer, then upped the ante with a deluge of marshmallow.

"Lactose adds yet more thick, creamy flavour into the final brew and helps to emulate that classic treat."

Priced at £3.95, the new milk stout, which is described as "luxuriously thick and moreish", is available to buy now from the brewery's website.

The beer specialists have also created a Christmas Pudding-inspired brown ale which is perfect for the festive period.

It is vegan friendly and has been brewed with raisins, citrus peel and warming spices, to create a beer that is perfect for enjoying with everyone's favourite Christmas pudding.

Rob MacKay, creative and marketing director at Drygate, said: “Tunnocks are an iconic Glasgow institution and many of us grew up eating their Tea Cakes.

“They’re a comforting treat, and when we were looking for inspiration for our new Biscuit Tin series of beers, they were one of the first to be suggested.

“Our brewers have worked hard to replicate the flavours of sweet marshmallow, milk chocolate, and biscuity base. The resulting beer has great depth of flavour - it’s complex, yet instantly rewarding, and we think we’ve achieved that authentic flavour.

“We’ve got high hopes for this series and we definitely think that we’ve kicked it off in style with our Chocolate Mallow Stout.

"If the folks at Tunnocks are interested, then we’d love to collaborate with them on our next beer, or we’ll happily exchange beer for biscuits any time!"
