A housing rights campaigner has warned rapid gentrification in Glasgow's east end is forcing working class communities out of the picture.
The claims come after Dennistoun's inclusion on Time Out's top 10 list of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world.
Placed at number eight on the list, the area was picked out on Tuesday for its "buzzing" coffee shops and sense of independence within Scotland's biggest city.
Rory Steel, a political activist and campaigner with Living Rent, said the focus on who's moving in masks the problems of who is being forced out.
In an opinion piece printed in full below, Steel says he loves the place but adds: "Dennistoun's cool ranking will only be cause for celebration for landlords who will now be thinking about how much they can tack onto tenants' already sky high rent."
Dennistoun seriously impressed Time Out's judges in their annual ranking of hotspots around the world. They liked initiatives during the pandemic such as a Zero Waste Market, Alexandra Park's Food Forest, vibrant places to eat and innovative craft breweries. There are plenty of independence shops on Duke Street and Alexandra Parade.
Dennistoun featured with first-placed Esquerra de l'Eixample in Barcelona. Soho was the only other UK neighbourhood to make the top 40.
