Glasgow's Deanston Bakery doubles Ukraine donations thanks to anonymous donor

A Shawlands bakery raising cash for Ukraine has doubled its funds thanks to a mystery donor.

The Deanston Bakery, run by a Ukrainian family, had drummed up more than £30,000 to help people in their war-hit home country after their bake sale on Sunday, with donations continuing to pour in.

Now they have raised twice as much overnight after a kind-hearted donor matched the funds, with the total now sitting at more than £73,500.

The Facebook post said: "We wanted to share with you that overnight we had an anonymous donor on our JustGiving page who matched the funds we raised together.

Our total raised now stands at £72,451! Thank you to each and every single person who has donated to help us reach this incredible amount for the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal."

The Facebook post drew more than 500 likes and sparked a flurry of comments from locals.

One person said: "Truly wonderful. Your efforts will make a huge difference to those in need."

"Whoever that person is should *never* have to buy their own drink ever again," another added. "How wonderful."

A third wrote: "Absolutely wonderful!! Can only imagine how proud you must feel....I feel it for you! Incredible."

You can donate to the Just Giving page the family has set up here.
