Glasgow's award-winning Mural Trail recognised by Tripadvisor as top attraction

The Glasgow City Centre Mural Trail has been listed as a 'top attraction' on a leading travel site.

The Mural Trail own the 'Travellers' Choice', using an algorithm to take into account reviews, opinions and popularity with travellers over the last year.

This means the Mural Trail is now identified as one of the the top bookable travel experiences listed on Tripadvisor globally.

The street murals started as a project launched by Glasgow City Council and street artists in 2008.

The aim was to rejuvenate streets and revitalise buildings and vacant sites that look a bit tired, reincarnating them as beautiful pieces of public street art.

Works stretch from Townhead to the Clutha and Sauchiehall street, and include the stunning tributes to Billy Connolly by artist Rogue One, as well as what was once the largest mural in Europe, "Wonderwall".

“Wonderwall” celebrates the people of the University of Strathclyde and their many significant achievements.

It is almost 200 metres long from start to finish and incorporating three 7- storey gables the project was completed by Art Pistol with Rogue-One and Ejek.

It features the Dansken equatorial telescope featured, which was once used to teach nautical astronomy, and the Land-Ship - a mock up navigation bridge on the roof of the School of Navigation in the Royal College - used to teach the principles of compass adjustment.

The Mural Trail is a walking route which allows walkers to follow a route and learn more about the pieces. Find the map here.

More artists are encouraged to take part in creating their own murals, and application to the city centre Mural Fund can be found here.
