Glasgow Ryanair flights to Italy, Spain and more cheaper than train to Edinburgh

Savvy Glaswegians can currently pick up plane tickets to European countries for a cheaper price than a return train ticket to Edinburgh.

ScotRail sell 'Anytime Return' tickets between the two cities for £30 that are valid for up to one month, but the operator has previously come under fire for the "expensive" price.

Meanwhile, with the requirement for pre-departure tests for those flying into the UK scrapped, and lateral flow tests now being accepted as day two tests rather than just the more expensive PCR tests, international travel has become easier for Scots.

Countries across Europe have also eased entry restrictions for UK travellers, and airlines are hoping to take advantage of the subsequent increased demand by offering cheap seats to popular destinations.

Scots can currently book a return ticket to the Italian city of Milan for £26 this month with operator Ryanair — £4 cheaper than an Anytime Return train ticket to Glasgow.

A trip to Rome can also be nabbed for under £30, with those leaving on January 22 and returning January 29 paying just £28.

Meanwhile, a direct return ticket to Tenerife is even cheaper, costing just £18 from Ryanair for a week-long getaway between January 17 and January 24.

Elsewhere, a direct return ticket to Málaga can be bought for the stunningly cheap price of £10 with Ryanair — a third of the price of a Anytime Return to Edinburgh.

Other countries that can be flown to with the budget airline for under £30 include Portugal and Belgium, with return tickets to cities such as Lisbon and Brussels costing as little as £27 and £28 respectively.

Flights to France — one of the countries that recently eased restrictions for UK travellers — can be booked for £37, just a few pounds more than the train ticket.
