Glasgow restaurant that went viral thanks to hidden soft play launches new kids menu

A chic Glasgow restaurant which has won plaudits for its hidden soft play area that's ideal for entertaining kids while parents dine has just announced a new children's menu.

Mikaku, located on Glasgow's Queen Street, has launched the new menu in time for the School Summer Holidays, paired with their complimentary play area and extensive food and drink menu for parents.

The menu, consisting of healthy and popular Japanese street food all served together in a bento box, will launch with an introductory offer with one child aged up to 10 years old eating free for every paying adult.

The 'Kids Eat Free' offer will run from Monday (June 26) for one week only, before the kid's menu is then priced at just £6.

Mikaku, which opened in the city centre in 2019, has not only won over the city's diners with its stylish interior, hip dishes like gyoza dumplings and chicken karaage, as well as its expertly-made cocktails, but it's also been getting glowing reviews from families looking to dine somewhere a little different.

The chic restaurant has been gaining traction on social media sites TikTok and Instagram thanks to parents gushing about the fact they are able to enjoy a meal in peace while their kids have fun in the play area.

The new kids' menu was developed by Michelin-starred chef Stephen Donnelly, who retained two Michelin Stars during his tenure at Le Saint-James, Bouliac, France. It features mix-and-match popular Japanese street food including gyozas, chicken teriyaki skewers, katsu curry or ramen options, alongside healthy fruit and vegetables.

The menu includes plenty of choices for young eaters, including katsu curries, ramen, chicken teriyaki, vegetable tempura served alongside side dishes and dessert options.

Executive chef Stephen Donnelly said: "Our most popular request has been a healthy kids menu that young ones will love coming back for, so that their parents can enjoy a great meal in wonderful surroundings - we hope we've been able to provide just that.

"We can't wait to welcome families to Mikaku, whether returning or for the first time, to experience our truly unique restaurant."
