Glasgow restaurant shortlisted for £25,000 makeover

A west end chippy is in the running to nab a makeover worth a whopping £25,000 - and you can help them win the title.

Mario’s Plaice on Byres Road has been shortlisted by Deliveroo to be one of six restaurants in the UK in for the chance to boost their business with a bespoke makeover.

The family run business serves up traditional fish and chips meals along with Scottish specialities like deep-fried Mars Bars and half pizzas.

The restaurant owner Mario’s son Santino said:  "If we won the Deliveroo restaurant makeover competition, we’d change our frying range into a bigger and more efficient one. We could put down our delivery time a lot more and produce the food a lot faster.

"Also, we'd like to maybe make our restaurant space bigger. We’d probably try and put in a mezzanine, which would give us more seats and also obviously allow more customers in our restaurant."

Patrick Grady MP, Glasgow North, said: “Mario’s Plaice is an institution in Glasgow’s West End - you’re always guaranteed a warm welcome and their famous Fish Tea is legendary.

"I find it a great place for a cuppa and a bacon roll after a busy morning surgery at the library across the road - and it’s kept many members of my campaign team well sustained on election days in recent years!

"The option of ordering for home delivery no doubt makes it even more popular with residents across the area. It’s great to see Mario’s nominated for this award, which is a real recognition of their contribution to the local community and economy.”

Voting is now live and you have until noon on Friday August 9 to cast your vote here.
