Glasgow restaurant introduces the UK's first vegan sashimi

A Glasgow restaurant has introduced the UK's first vegan sashimi... And we're soy excited to try it.

Kcal Kitchen on West Regent Street is rolling out a plant-based alternative to the Japanese fish-based dish – and just in time for Veganuary too.

Sashimi is usually fish or meat, sliced very thinly and served uncooked with daikon radish, pickled ginger, wasabi, soy sauce and edamame beans.

The Zalmon and No-Tuna Sashimi is made from tapioca starch and seaweed, with a similar texture to real fish, apparently. But we'll let you guys be the judge of that.

It arrives on Wednesday January 8 – along with a brand new menu, which is currently being kept under wraps.

Kcal Kitchen have unveiled a series of tasty, nutritious dishes over the last year. They launched a roll and vegan square sausage last month and a  vegan junk menu to boot –  from Big Mac-style burgers and meat-free chicken nuggets to vegan pulled pork fries.

We know it's a few months away... But we're hoping they relaunch the Creme Egg-stuffed protein doughnut for Easter this year. Fingers crossed!

Follow Kcal Kitchen on Facebook to see what else they've got on offer.
