Cops have also warned that any criminal behaviour will be "dealt with", with officers lining the streets just over a week after sectarian violence in Govan.

A group of around 400 loyalist supporters turned up at a similar Republican march last Friday and locals locked themselves in their homes and in local pubs as trouble flared between both groups.

A tweet on the Greater Glasgow Police account said: "Significant police presence in Glasgow today for the public processions.

"Officers have already arrested a 33-year-old man for carrying an offensive weapon.

"We want to re-emphasise that anyone intent on becoming involved in any kind of criminal behaviour will be dealt with."
