Glasgow relocated to Spain in TV show gaffe on nation's pubs

American lifestyle magazine Cigar & Spirits came in for some light-hearted criticism in August last year for their 'lazy' lack of research after they hilariously confused Dublin's famous Temple Bar with the Finnieston strip in a social media post.

And now a TV show on Spanish channel La Sexta has joined them with their very own Glasgow gaffe - by using a photo of a popular Glasgow bar as a backdrop amid a discussion about how the Spanish hospitality industry has been affected by the covid pandemic.

The blunder happened last night on politics show El Objectivo - and showed a photo of The Social in Royal Exchange Square boarded up amid the current Level 4 lockdown in Glasgow.

One eagle-eyed viewer who spotted the error took to Twitter to vent their frustrations at producers of the weekly show, which is presented by popular journalist Ana Pastor.

The tweeted: "Why do they use an image of an establishment covered with wood from a place that is not Spain? This property is located in Glasgow. I thought that the program was dedicated to the hospitality industry in Spain. I wonder why they used this apocalyptic image?

The reason the image appears to be "apocalyptic" as the viewer suggests could be down to the fact that restaurants and cafes in places such as Madrid remain open (until 9pm) amid more relaxed restrictions than we face here in Scotland.

To be fair, we doubt anyone would mind if Glasgow somehow found itself relocated to Spain!
