Glasgow records temperatures of -11° as Scotland sees coldest night since 2010

Glasgow recorded temperatures of -11° last night, as Scotland saw the coldest night since 2010.

Readings taken around 2am on Thursday morning show the mercury dipping even further than predicted.

Glasgow Airport recorded a temperature of around -9C around 10.35pm described by weather expert Sean Batty as 'astonishing'.

The sub-zero temperatures come as Storm Darcy grips the country, bringing heavy snow and ice.

Scotland was on course to hit temperatures that could make it the coldest night since 1995 after breaking the 2010 record. Kinbrace in the north Highlands touched -20C with Braemar not far behind at -19.2C by 10.30pm.

Experts have been dubbing Storm Darcy as 'Beast from the East 2' - a nod to the 2018 weather which brought Glasgow to a standstill.

Locals haven't been letting the cold weather deter them from having fun, with hundreds flocking to their local parks to enjoy the snow.

Kelvingrove Park and Queens Park have been people of all ages enjoying sledging and even a bit of snowboarding.

Like it or love it, the cold snap is set to continue into the weekend with a weather warning for more snow in place for Saturday.

Anyone planning on heading out for essential purposes should take extra care and plan ahead. ScotRail have been experiencing severe disruption across their network while Stagecoach is urging customers to having travelling if possible.
