Glasgow reacts to Eurovision Song Contest 2023 shortlist announcement

The people of Glasgow have reacted to the announcement that the city will be included in the seven-city shortlist to host Eurovision Song Contest 2023.

The announcement was made on BBC Radio Two this morning, with Glasgow vying for the title of host city alongside Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield. The city will have to go through various other bidding processes to find out if they have met the criteria for hosting the prestigious event.

Glasgow itself has reacted to this exciting piece of news, with Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon also chiming in on social media. The First Minister wrote: "It’s got to be Glasgow! #Eurovision #TeamGlasgow."

Another Twitter user replied to Nicola's tweet, writing: "Delighted Glasgow is confirmed as a shortlisted host city to be the venue for #Eurovision on behalf of the people of Ukraine. This UNESCO City of Music has all the right ingredients to deliver a Eurovision the world will remember. Congratulations to our fellow shortlisted cities."

Another said: "If it’s held in Glasgow, We’re all getting on the Bucky for 2 weeks! #Eurovision."

A third wrote: "Now definitely biased on this… but #EUROVISION should definitely come to Glasgow!"

More comments read: "What a fab list! I’m hoping for Glasgow or Manchester but I’m thrilled for any of these cities #Eurovision."

While others commented: "Would be low key embarrassing if they didn't pick Glasgow. Legit tailor made for an event as huge as #Eurovision."

Finally, one concluded: "There's only one correct answer: Glasgow #Eurovision."
