Glasgow rapper Loki helps launch new Christmas toy bank in response to election 'disappointment'

Glasgow rapper Darren McGarvey has giving his support to a Christmas toy bank that was launched in response to the General Election.

The prize-winning author and social activist, known to many as Loki, tweeted that his fiancé had started up the new bank to help families following the fall out from Friday's results.

His tweet read: "My partner has decided to deal with the disappointment of the election by setting up a Christmas Toy Bank for families of young children. Any help in publicising it is welcome also."

The news was met with an overwhelmingly positive response from social media users, with one user replying that it was 'the most inspiring thing I’ve read today."

Another commented:  "Hearts of gold. Well done. I wish more of us, myself included, had the strength and fortitude to have done something like that today."

A third agreed:  "Thank you for doing this, these kids deserve some hope this Christmas."

The bank, named Every Kid, is now welcoming donations of nearly new toys.

They say that the bank is aimed at families with young children. It is completely free and no referral is needed.

It will be open on Friday, December 20 from 10am until 4.30pm at The Ice Box.

To donate, or to get in touch directly, please contact becciwallace@hotmail.com before December 16.
