Glasgow rail incident: Person dies after being struck by train between Airdrie and Shettleston

A person has died after being struck by a train between Airdrie and Shettleston train stations this morning.

Police and the emergency services were called to the line near Airdrie following reports of a casualty on the tracks around 6:45am this morning.

Sadly the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers from British Transport Police are currently working to identify the person and inform the person's family.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

The line was subsequently reopened to commuters at around 8.17am.

A British Transport Police spokeswoman told The Daily Record: "British Transport Police were called to line near Airdrie at 6.44am this morning (10 August) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are currently working to identify the person and inform their family.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner. The line was reopened to commuters at around 8.17am."
