Glasgow Queen Street voted Britain's best railway station in online poll

Glasgow Queen Street has been voted as Britain's best railway station in an online poll.

Thousands voted in the Rail Delivery Group's '#WorldCupOfStations' on Twitter, with Queen Street finding its way into the last four alongside Huddersfield, London Kings Cross and Stourbridge Junction.

48 different stations competed in the week-long poll.

And with the final results now in, it has been confirmed the Glasgow station came out on top with over 31% of the 20,000+ votes cast.

Reacting to the vote, Scotrail commented: "Our team have worked extremely hard to deliver great service for our customers, all while being transformed into a spacious and accessible transport hub. Well done to all our fellow finalists, and all entrants. What a #WorldCupOfStations it's been!

"A heartfelt thank you to everyone who voted for Glasgow Queen Street, (and those who didn't and put up with all of our tweets...). We've had some great fun today. We're peeling ourselves off the ceiling as we speak."

The station, located in Glasgow city centre, is undergoing the final phases of a £120million refurb which commenced in August 2017.
