Glasgow pub The Griffin to remain closed after iconic bar failed to reopen post-lockdown

Iconic Glasgow pub The Griffin won't reopen "for the time being" having remained shut to punters since the covid lockdown was lifted.

The traditional boozer, which dates back to 1903, is regarded one of the city's best loved eating and drinking institutions, and is a firm favourite with theatregoers given its location across from the King's Theatre at the corner of Bath Street and Elmbank Street.

Reports suggested that the city centre pub would reopen once performances resumed at the King's, however, despite the theatre opening its doors to the public once again on September 11, with a production of Chicago, the lights at The Griffin have remained off.

Glasgow Live reached out to the pub for an update on a possible reopening in the near future and were told: "Unfortunately we are remaining closed for the time being and are not taking bookings at this time."

Regulars - who may well speak for all of us - have left comments on The Griffin's Facebook page over the past few weeks and months expressing their desire to see it reopen.

One person wrote: "Me and my wife used to head there first on our walk around the streets of Glasgow. We have missed it this year. A proper pub". They were joined by another person wrote: "First stop when I come to Glasgow. Sorry to see you closed."
