Glasgow pub offers free tea and coffee to older loved ones amid new restrictions

New restrictions mean that house visits in and around Glasgow have been banned for the next two weeks as the city and wider area deals with a sharp increase in the number of coronavirus cases.

And to encourage locals to meet up with family members amid the new restrictions, one Glasgow pub has come up with the brilliant idea of offering free teas and coffees for older loved ones.

The Real McCoy, based on London Road near Celtic Park in the east end of the city, is running the freebie for the next two weeks while the ban on indoor visits is in place in the Glasgow area.

Speaking to Glasgow Live , manager Theresa Lawson said: "It was the owner's idea. I think it's a good idea. We've already had a few people in today who have had their free coffees or teas.

"You don't expect it especially with how things are just now so it's nice to be able to do it.

"There's a care home nearby too so helpfully they can get wind of it and folk visiting people there can take advantage too."

Hats off to the folk at the pub, what a great idea.

Who knows, other places in the city might be inspired to do the same.
