Glasgow pub-goers reminded not to gather in large groups this weekend

Glaswegians have been reminded not to gather in large groups in pubs and bars this weekend.

Glasgow City Council issued the reminder via social media yesterday evening, alongside advice to hospitality owners who plan to broadcast sporting spectacles in their premises.

A tweet from the Council read: "If you are showing sports in your premises, don’t make an event of it, turn off the sound (or reduce it significantly), use subtitles on the channel, implement controls to prevent customers from gathering around TVs/big screens ."

As of July 15, pubs were given an exemption from the two metre rules on the basis they inform customers that they are entering a 1m zone, revise seating plans and improve ventilation.

With a 1m zone in hospitality in place in Scotland, the Scottish Government, on announcing the relaxation, reminded pub-goers that they must follow the guidance and instructions of staff at all times and be mindful to maintain a distance of 1m from others out-with their own household.

The reminder by the Council comes after Glasgow registered it's highest day-on-day increase in cases since May 28 yesterday, with 14 new confirmed cases of the virus overnight from Thursday.

As of yesterday afternoon, a total of 4,940 people had tested positive for the virus in the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde area.
