Glasgow police up south side patrols after fireworks set off in early hours of the morning

Police are upping patrols in the south side of Glasgow in response to fireworks being set off in the early hours of the morning.

Police received several reports of fireworks being launched in Pollokshields on both Friday and Saturday and have attributed the 'completely unacceptable' incidents to a small group of individuals.

The local Police Inspector says 'their sole intent is to cause disruption in the local community'.

Officers are urging anyone who may have seen a car dropping off a box of fireworks on Allison Street to come forward, while local residents and businesses are asked to scan their CCTV.

A Greater Glasgow Police Division statement issued today advised: "Police in Glasgow are aware of a number of reports of fireworks being let off in and around the Pollokshields area over in the early hours of the morning on Friday, 22 October and Saturday, 23 October."

Inspector Cennydd Smith commented: "These acts are being carried out by a small group of individuals whose sole intent is to cause disruption in the local community and this is completely unacceptable. We will continue to have additional patrols in the area in an attempt to disrupt this behaviour and catch those responsible.

"We would particularly like to hear from anyone who may have seen a car dropping off a box of fireworks on Allison Street near to Craigie Street.

"I would urge anyone in the area to check private CCTV footage or if anyone has any information that could assist with our enquiries then please contact police via 101, quoting incident number 0395 of 23 October. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111."
