Glasgow police investigate sexual assault in Silverburn shopping centre

Bosses at Silverburn shopping centre have moved to reassure customers' safety as their 'top priority' after a shock sexual assault within one of the stores.

Police are currently investigating an attack at the centre which is reported to have taken place at 11.25am on Thursday morning.

Daily Record reports enquiries into the incident, which took place while the centre was busy with Christmas shoppers, remain ongoing.

In a statement a spokesperson for Silverburn confirmed the incident was being investigated and said they were supporting the authorities.

A spokesperson said: “We can confirm that an incident occurred at Silverburn yesterday.

"Police attended and this is now a matter for the authorities and we are supporting them with their enquiries.

"The safety and security of our customers and colleagues is always our top priority.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: "Officers received a report of a sexual assault within a store at Silverburn shopping centre on Barrhead Road, Glasgow around 11.25am on Thursday 16 December 2021.

“Enquiries are ongoing."
