Glasgow police divers comb River Clyde amid ongoing search for missing Harthill man

Police divers are searching the River Clyde as part of their efforts to find missing Harthill man Derek Beattie.

The 39-year-old was last seen leaving Gracie's Bar in the Merchant City around 7.35pm on Saturday (November 27).

He thereafter crossed the King George V Bridge over the River Clyde heading in the direction of Commerce Street.

Publishing an appeal for the public's help to trace his whereabouts earlier this week, police said they were "becoming increasingly concerned for Derek’s wellbeing."

Police also expressed their desire to speak to a man who they believe gave Derek directions to another location.

Enquiries have now led officers believe that Derek may have entered the water around the King George V Bridge, with searches of that area being conducted today (December 3) with the assistance of the Marine Unit.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Officers are working to trace missing person Derek Beattie, 39, from the Harthill area with their efforts continuing today.

"Derek was reported missing on Sunday and believed to have been last seen in the Glasgow city centre area on Saturday evening.

“Enquiries have led officers to believe that Derek may have entered the water around the King George V Bridge and searches of that area will be conducted today with the assistance of the Marine Unit.

“Officers are continuing to appeal for anyone with any information to contact them by calling 101 and quoting incident 1541 of 28 November.”
