Glasgow performance artist SHREK 666 amazingly recreates Robbie Williams' Rock DJ video on carpark roof

Few creative forces in Glasgow have had the impact that SHREK 666 has had recently as resident performer at one of Glasgow's - and Scotland’s - best-loved club nights, Shoot Your Shoot.

Drawing inspiration from folklore, mythology, dreamworks, queerness, horror, trans-identities and being an outsider, SHREK 666's grotesque talents have saw him grace the likes of i-D and Hunger.

And now, thanks to an amazing recreation of the video for Robbie Williams' chart-topping hit 'Rock DJ', such talents are fully on show.

Filmed on the roof of a car park overlooking the Hydro and the Skypark, it sees put an even more satanic spin on the controversial video - which won an MTV Video Music Award back in 2000.

The video features SHREK 666 in full muscle-bound ogre attire surrounded by folk circling around on roller skates in the car park, and sees him mirror Robbie Williams in the video by stripping down to his undies before going full skin and muscles.

Speaking about the video, SHREK 666 - real name is Dæmon Clelland - told Glasgow Live: “So I’m the resident performer with Shoot Your Shot and when lockdown hit and the clubs shut we started making livestreams with DJs and really fab performers making video work.

"I made a new video for each livestream and there were many. Rock DJ was for our 12+ hour Pride livestream raising money for LGBTQ+ Unity here in Glasgow and some money for the artists involved, giving a little support while we adapt to having lost a means of income.

"This was different to my work before. My approach to club performance was creating a non-human atmosphere and while I brought a similar approach to some films for Pride I wanted to make something fun when so much around felt kinda miserable. The video involved a talented team of friends, who all got together (safely) and had a hoot and a half filming".

However, the fun in making the video on the roof of the car park near the Hydro was threatened by the arrival of the police, who SHREK 666 feels might have been under the impression they were a terrorist - given the fact he was wearing a vest with the numbers 666 on the back of it.

"The police turned up on air when I was meant to take ma undies off after receiving a call that there was a guy in body armour with 666 on the back of his vest, they had a report I was a terrorist!

When they seen it was just an ogre and my name was Shrek they let us get on wi it. I’m sure it made their day! I really enjoyed making the prosthetics for this one and so appreciate everyone’s time and contributions.

"Mad love to Tiu Makkenon and Dylan Moore who were behind the camera, Bonzai Bonner of course, Velvet Seflora for the gorj headpieces & accessories, Alicia Rodgers, Axel Gutapfel, Libby Odai, Frankie Mullholland, Alexandra Leach, Jordan, David Ronan, Benjamin Hall and all the skaters for bringing it to the Hydro car park roof top.

"It’s been great making video again for the first time since Art School".

And SHREK 66 hopes that somehow the video will find itself before the eyes of Robbie Williams himself.

"Robbie Williams is a DILF, he’s into aliens and I’m into that. I hope he see’s this I think he’d vibe with it".

Anyone out there got Robbie Williams' number? We think he would LOVE it just as we have!
