Glasgow pensioners flying high after bumping into Lewis Capaldi on way to surfing trip

This group of pensioners were already on a high when they set out for a two-day surfing trip in Wales.

But their holiday was made even more memorable when they bumped into the biggest popstar in Scotland at the airport.

The gang, from Weekday Wow Factor, managed to enjoy an impromptu meet and greet with man of the moment Lewis Capaldi before they boarded their flight to Cardiff.

Heading for Caswell Bay to surf some waves, Lewis' appearance at the start of their journey ensured this outing more than made a splash for members of the social enterprise group.

Of course, you'll have heard of the voluntary organisation before, as we've often reported on their amazing exploits, which include daytime clubbing, adventure courses, snowboarding and go-karting.

Their aim is to "awaken the inner child to enhance physical, mental and social health and wellbeing" and we'd say Lewis' appearance more than made a splash in the lives of the lucky members who met him.

Occupational Therapist Pasna Sallis said: "We teamed up with another social enterprise in Wales to make accessible surfing happen for our seniors who are mostly in their 70s.

"Most wished to challenge themselves and realise their potential, despite no or little swimming abilities; lack of opportunities for being near the sea and financial accessibility when growing up; poor confidence due to traumatic experience in water in childhood and fear of being in the water.

"We would like to say a big thank you to Unlimited Grants for supporting our big adventure, to enhance health and wellbeing and make new friendships along the way !

"They thrived being out of their comfort zone and felt safe with our joint work with Surfability CIC !"

She added: "We'd also like to thank Lewis Capaldi who we bumped into at the airport....what a lovely gentleman!"
