Glasgow park left littered with fireworks after yobs terrorise locals until 4am

A Glasgow park has been left littered with fireworks by yobs who terrorised locals setting them off until 4am.

Peterson Park near Knightswood was left covered in the used pyrotechnics after Bonfire night on Friday.

Groups of anti-social louts kept residents up until 4am by setting off the 'horrible smelling' fireworks before starting again the next evening.

The public park was left strewn with fireworks boxes and plastic from the devices.

One local described the actions as 'absolutely crazy'.

They told Glasgow Live: "People set fireworks until 4am and they did not think of cleaning up after. It was absolutely crazy. I was hoping for them to stop at midnight at least but no it kept going. It was also really loud ones and the smell outside was horrible.

"This tradition is outdated and doesn't reflect the society we hope to build.

"Fireworks are also releasing three of the gases responsible for climate change and now people think it’s ok to leave them behind, boxes included.

"Seeing this today at the park broke my heart. What a slap in the face of COP26 happening right now in the same city."

Fire crews in Glasgow and the West of Scotland received more than 500 calls in an eight-hour period last night during Bonfire Night and dealt with 250 bonfires.

Scottish Fire and Rescue's West Service Delivery Area, which has its HQ in Hamilton, received 582 calls between 3:30pm and 11:30pm yesterday (November 5) and attended 258 bonfires.

Two crews were also attacked while out on calls, SFRS has confirmed.
