Glasgow on snow alert as Met Office issue weather warning for tonight

Glasgow is on snow alert once more with the Met Office issuing a fresh weather warning.

Glaswegians are advised to watch for potential travel disruption, with the yellow warning for snow and ice coming into effect at 8pm this evening.

Forecasters say: "Wintry showers and icy stretches likely to bring some travel disruption.", with the warning - which covers the majority of the west coast of the UK - lasting until 10am tomorrow morning.

What to expect

  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
  • Some roads and railways may be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services

Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to fall to as low as 1C overnight, with further snow forecast for tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow evening.

Glasgow is still recovering from the effects of Storm Ciara, with the city inundated with rain last week leading to localised flooding in the surrounding area.
