Glasgow on flood alert as Met Office weather warning for rain comes into place

Glasgow is on flood alert with the city set to be inundated with rain throughout the whole of Friday.

The Met Office yellow weather warning for rain came into force at 6am this morning and will be in place until 9pm this evening.

The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) say there's potential for localised flooding and travel disruption across West Central Scotland.

Meanwhile, Glasgow is set to be hit by strong winds, with gusts of over 45mph predicted throughout Friday.

SEPA advise: "Persistent rainfall and snow melt is expected on Friday which may lead to localised river and surface water flooding impacts on Friday and into Saturday morning.

"Typical impacts may include flooding of low-lying land and roads, isolated properties and localised disruption to travel."

Meanwhile, the Met Office warn: "Heavy rain may lead to some travel disruption and local flooding."

What to expect

  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely
