Glasgow nursery teacher's car firebombed in terrifying Hogmanay attack

A Glasgow nursery teacher's car has been firebombed outside her home.

The young mum has spoken of her horror at watching her red Audi engulfed in flames from her bedroom window.

Ashlee McKinlay was enjoying a night in with friends at her home in Tollcross when the drama unfolded, the Daily Record reports.

The 30-year-old said: "I was so scared, I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

"I don't know why someone would do this."

Ashlee, whose children are eight and three, is now at her "wits end" and has no idea why someone targeted her motor at 12.05am on Hogmanay.

She added: "All my neighbours came out of the flats to help. Everyone was really shocked.

"It's been a lot to deal with. I'm a single mum and I would never expect something like this to happen right outside my home.

"Luckily my kids weren't home at the time.

"I'm a private, quiet person. I keep to myself. I have no idea why this has happened.

"I'm lucky I have great friends and people around me to support me."

Left frightened by the incident, Ashlee packed up her belongings and stayed with a friend after police left the scene.

The mum says she is too scared to return to the block of flats.

She went on: "It doesn't feel safe now.

"I've been left with no car at the start of the new year.

"It took me years to get my home together and get back on my feet alone.

"I feel like this has turned my life upside and I'm back to square one."

Police investigating the incident and appealed to anyone with information to contact them immediately.

A police spokesperson added: "We were made aware of a car on fire at in Glasgow around 12.05am on Friday, 31 December.

"The fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and no one was injured.

"The incident is being treated as deliberate and enquiries are ongoing."

Call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 with information.
