Glasgow nurse left 'speechless' after surprise birthday message from Nicola Sturgeon

A Glasgow nurse got a birthday message to remember from First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

Kathleen Robb turned 50 during lockdown - but her colleagues  the Glasgow Royal Infirmary refused to let her big birthday go unnoticed.

Kathleen, who works as a senior charge nurse in the high dependency unit, was wowed by the effort put in by her friends and family after they worked together to make her a special video message.

But it was the final clip that left the mum-of-two truly 'speechless'.

The video finished with footage from the First Minister wishing Kathleen a happy birthday and thanking her for her work as a frontline worker.

Kathleen told Glasgow Live: "I was stunned! Honoured and very emotional.

"As someone working with the sickest and most vulnerable patients and being a mum and wife I have nothing but admiration for how she has navigated us through this, so to hear her words ... well it’s not often I am speechless!"

Kathleen is now looking forward to spending a weekend in the sunshine with her family, celebrating her milestone birthday as lockdown starts to ease.

She said: "I started annual leave on my birthday, the team insisted - I need to say how amazing they all are, they just got on with what was required, working in full PPE is challenging."

From all of us at Glasgow Live, a big thank you and happy birthday to Kathleen!
