Glasgow named the 'most Christmassy city' in the UK

It's almost Christmas time - yes, really - and before you know it we'll be sitting around our Christmas trees waiting for Santa to arrive.

But on the run up to Christmas, we're all trying to feel a little more festive with some feeling it more than others.

And it seems Glasgow has taken the top spot when it comes to this with the city having being crowned the Uk's most ' Christmassy'.

It comes as Abbott Lyon has put all debates to rest after discovering which city in the UK has the most holiday cheer.

In order to rank the cities, the data looked at:

  • Average Google reviews of each individual market and ice skating rinks in each city (out of 5)
  • The number of monthly searches for Christmas lights in each city
  • The number of monthly searches for Christmas decorations in each city
  • The likelihood of a White Christmas in each city
Abbott Lyon have crowned Glasgow as number one. (Abbott Lyon.)

And it seems we were the winners with Glasgow outranking every other city in the UK as the most Christmassy, scoring high in almost all of the Christmassy-city criteria. And with all the events planned in and around the city, we certainly deserve it.

This year, despite there being a lack of Christmas markets, there's still a lot to look forward to. The city is set up for a number of events including the highly-anticipated Elfingrove Ice Experience with the Kelvingrove venue having been transformed from a building site into a winter wonderland extravaganza.

Not only that but Country Living Magazine are setting up shop at the SEC this weekend for four days of Christmas Fair fun. Opening in Glasgow on November 17, the event is set to run until Sunday with events being held in Glasgow, London and Harrogate to bring together the best in British arts and crafts, festive treats and homeware.

And if this wasn't enough, festive fans will be loving the news that the Riverside Museums' very own Christmas Market is returning this month, with over 40 stalls on offer. Free to enter, the market will run over two days, Saturday, November 26, from 10 am until 4.30 pm and Sunday, November 27, 11 am until 4.30 pm.

Discussing their data: "The historic city ranks in the top three for a majority of categories and number one for the city with the most Christmas decorations searches and highly rated ice-skating rinks - and with a good chance of a white Christmas, Glasgow is easily the most Christmassy city this 2022."
