Glasgow named one of the 'best cities' for over 50s dating

When it comes to dating, it can be hard to find the perfect match and it can be quite exhausting for some.

But when it comes to dating in yours 50s, it seems that Glasgow is the perfect place to be with it having been named one of the best cities for dating if you're aged 50 or over.

It comes after a new study by Comparethemarket looked into a number of restaurants, bars and cafes as well as the cost of a meal out, city population aged 50 and over as well as Google searches for popular senior dating apps.

Glasgow was listed in third place whilst London and Edinburgh came out on top followed Bradford in fourth place and Birmingham making up the top five.

The findings found that nearly 50 per cent of singletons aged 50 and over feel confident when it comes to dating online whilst over half (55 per cent) said that being kind, caring and having a good sense of humour are the most important attributes in a potential partner.

However when it comes to trust, just one in two said it was the secret to a happy relationship.

Online dating is more common with todays social media and technology with half of single people said to have met their partner online. And when it comes to how confident single people in this age category are, 61 per cent said they are comfortable dating in person while 45 per cent are comfortable with dating online.

In addition, almost two fifths (38 per cent) of singletons have used dating apps to help find a partner and half have been successful in doing so.

Some of us have a wish list when it comes to finding a dream match, but what are the most important things 50+ daters consider when on the lookout for a potential partner?

As well as being kind and caring and having a good sense of humour, there are other things people consider when looking for their potential partner. But what are they?

Whilst these are what some people look out for, just a quarter (25 per cent) say physical appearance is important with 21 per cent of women agreeing compared to 34 per cent of men. This is followed by financial security (23 per cent) which 28 per cent of women think is important compared to 14 per cent of men.

At the bottom of the list comes job status (4 per cent) and whether a potential partner has children (3 per cent).

Looking at the cost of a meal, number of bars, restaurants and cafes, as well as Google searches for dating apps and sites targeted at the 50+ generation, the best cities for dating are revealed, with London coming out on top, followed by Edinburgh and Glasgow.
