Glasgow mystery as 'futuristic' aircraft shakes houses and confuses residents

Glaswegians were left bemused after spotting a 'futuristic' looking helicopter in the skies above the city - with some residents saying it shook their houses.

The odd-looking military aircraft made quite a 'racket' as it flew above the city on Thursday afternoon (December 9), thanks to its two large, three-bladed rotors.

Planespotters identified the helicopter as a US Air Force Boeing V22 Osprey, which is believed to have been visiting Scotland on a training mission from the RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk, which supports US Air Force operations.

The Osprey, which costs a cool $75m each, has been likened to a mix between a Chinook and a Hercules, and was spotted in the north and west of the city as it made a number of approaches to Glasgow Airport.

One person who spotted it posted a video in a tweet which read: "Caught this noisy but impressive sight over Clydebank this afternoon. It done a few approaches to Glasgow Airport. An Osprey, not sure who it belonged to."

A fellow confused local also took to Twitter to post: "Why would tilt rotor Ospreys be flying into Glasgow? As far as I know only the US forces have them".

Another who also spotted it tweeted: "Weirdest helicopter I've seen yet, it's called an Osprey & it is used by the USAF its very unusual to see one of these flying into Glasgow Airport".

And they were joined by a further bewildered Glaswegian who tweeted a photo of the helicopter with the caption: "Don't know what kinda helicopter this is but it shook my house!!
