Glasgow mid-air emergency as British Airways flight suffers 'technical issue'

A US bound British Airways plane has made an emergency landing at Glasgow Airport.

The London to Seattle flight suffered a "technical issue" after taking off from Heathrow yesterday.

The plane made a U-turn after being spotted circling above the Western Isles late in the afternoon.

Engineers checked out the Boeing 787 after pilots highlighted the "minor" problem, the Daily Record reports.

The flight resumed course at 7.05pm and landed safely at its destination.

A BA spokesman explained: "Safety is always our priority and our experienced pilots diverted our flight into Glasgow after they became aware of an indication of a minor technical issue.

"Our engineers are currently investigating while our cabin crew look after our customers. We hope to continue the flight shortly."

The latest incident comes a week after Glasgow Live reported a cargo plane declared an emergency as it flew over Glasgow.

Flight ABW107 declared 'Squawk 7600' just after 1.30am.

The signal means the plane has lost communication and will communicate with the tower using lights.

ABW107 is an AirBridge cargo flight.

The plane continued on its journey westbound.
