Glasgow Michelin Star winner Lorna McNee could be crowned best chef at UK awards

Top Glasgow chef Lorna McNee is in the running for another prestigious award after being nominated for a Cateys award.

Lorna, who is head chef at the city's Michelin Star winner Cail Bruich, is in the running to the land the Chef Award, facing competition from three other chefs from south of the border.

The UK-wide awards were created by The Caterer, a leading multimedia brand within the UK hospitality industry 'created to empower the leaders of today and the aspiring leaders of tomorrow'.

Other award categories this year include the Hotel of the Year, Menu of the Year and Pub and Bar of the Year.

Unveiling the nominees for the Chef Award today, organisers say: "This award is open to chefs from all sectors of the industry. It recognises individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the industry.

"The recipient must have made a major contribution through innovation in cooking techniques, styles of cuisine and the understanding of culinary processes. The award recognises a wider contribution to the trade, through significant and effective involvement in the fields of education, charity or the general promotion of the industry's interests.

"Although the award winner may not be an ever-present figure in his or her own kitchen, it is expected that the recipient will be taking a strong and significant role in the day-to-day operations of an outlet or outlets."

In 2021, Cail Bruich was awarded Glasgow’s first Michelin star in 18 years, meaning head chef Lorna McNee is the sole female chef in the city to be given the coveted award.

This year, the Great Western Road restaurant retained its award, as Glasgow gained a second Michelin Star Award winner in Unalome by Graeme Cheevers.
