A Glasgow Metro system has been deemed a 'priority' measure to help the city recover from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
The major infrastructure project, first proposed by Glasgow City Council back in May of 2019, would see Glasgow Airport connected to Paisley Gilmour Street station, on a line which would also include stops at Renfrew, Braehead and the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
While the city-wide network of high-capacity rapid-transit lines would also see further lines cross the city from a central point in the city centre to places such as Tollcross, Easterhouse, Summerston, Drumchapel and Robroyston.
The plans for the Glasgow Metro were set out in a report to the Glasgow City Region's cabinet, which includes representatives from eight neighbouring councils.
It is suggested major infrastructure projects such as the Glasgow Metro, as well as the redevelopment of the Ravenscraig steelworks, should be accelerated and expanded.
City Region cabinet members are asked to agree to the priority areas, which will be the focus of a recovery plan, when they meet on Tuesday.
Another priority listed in the report is supporting businesses to re-open after lockdown through additional funding to cover the cost of introducing social distancing and additional hygiene measures.
