Glasgow McDonald's take milkshakes off menu amid UK-wide shortage

All McDonald's restaurants in Glasgow are currently unable to serve milkshakes after suffering supply chain issues.

The fast food giant is experiencing the difficulties in all of their 1,250 locations across the UK, meaning they are currently unable to serve bottled drinks or milkshakes.

A McDonald’s spokesman said staff were “working hard to return these items to the menu as soon as possible”.

Speaking to The Independent, a spokesperson for the company said: “Like most retailers, we are currently experiencing some supply chain issues, impacting the availability of a small number of products. Bottled drinks and milkshakes are temporarily unavailable in restaurants across England, Scotland and Wales.

“We apologise for any inconvenience, and thank our customers for their continued patience.”

McDonald's is the latest food retailer who is experiencing issues which are thought to be caused by a shortage of lorry drivers due to new EU immigration rules and covid restrictions since Brexit.

Last week, Nandos was forced to close about 50 restaurants because of chicken shortages, including a number of its Glasgow stores.

Logistics UK, which represents freight firms, and the British Retail Consortium, said a shortfall of some 90,000 HGV drivers was the cause of many supply issues.
