Glasgow Marks & Spencer worker in hospital for over a week after coronavirus outbreak in store

A staff member at a Glasgow Marks & Spencer store has reportedly spent 10 days in hospital following a coronavirus outbreak.

The 50-year-old worker, who works at the chain's Sauchiehall Street store, is understood to have been taken to hospital on October 14.

The Daily Record reports that the family of the worker, who lives in the east end of Glasgow, were told she would be moved into intensive care if her condition did not improve.

An M&S spokeswoman said: “Everyone at M&S Sauchiehall Street is thinking of our colleague right now, and we all wish her a very speedy recovery.

“The health and wellbeing of our colleagues and customers always comes first and we have enhanced cleaning procedures and measures in place across all M&S stores to help ensure social distancing.

"In addition, all M&S colleagues are required to wear a face covering whilst working in store unless they are exempt, in line with Scottish Government regulations.

“Any colleague that has symptoms of Covid-19, tests positive for Covid-19, or who has been in close contact with someone who tests positive, is supported to self-isolate straight away on full pay.

“As well as working with NHS Test and Protect, we also have our own robust contact tracing system to ensure that we reach all relevant colleagues.

"We also carry out a deep clean of the store as a precaution.

“We are confident that the Sauchiehall Street M&S store is following all proper procedures and is fully in line with Scottish Government regulations.”
